Question From LAXplaya1346

Hello again. Sorry to bother you but I have a quick question about image viewing on a page. I am doing the correct format i have *[[image:_____]] but all that ever shows up is a link to the photo and not the actual photo am i missing something in the formula? the ____ = the image name

templates: From Prisoner

It is all new to me too. I'm still experimenting.

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Template is the help text for templates, which is where I started. Templates are just regular pages with the prefix Template:, so the page Template:released is included where I put { {released} } (without the extra spaces).

You can put parameters in, but I haven't figured out the details yet.

And unfortunately, I'm out of time for the moment, so I can't play more.  :)

Spin - I've created a cardRequired template and used it in the Series 1 section. Check it out and let me know if it makes life easier.

More answers to your template question on my talk page. Prisoner

I have answered your question on my user talk page. You can check it out.

items by theme

Spin, I notice you're now adding items by category. I really like this idea, but I'm worring on two counts:

  • I think that page is going to get big, and will need splitting
  • I know you're doing cross-references. I wonder if it might make more sense to do each item as an individual page (just the table row), and include it on every page where it might make sense. So you just need to update the page once and the change will show upe everywhere its included.

Prisoner reply

Yes, I mean one page for each theme, so there would be a Haloween page (possibly with sections for each year), a Pirates theme page, and so on.

The important issue to consider is how to present the items. The way you're doing it (with each item linking to a central reference) makes sense. But it might also make sense that each item on every page is complete by itself. We can do that by making each item its own page with just the table row, and then using templates to include that item everywhere it is used.

changing more than once

Yup, that is exactly my point.  :)

What I'm proposing is that each item (or perhaps set of items) would be on its own page, and then you include that page every place you want to use it.

so you would create, for example, a page named "itemCrate" and then include it with {{:itemCrate} }

this way, when we change the price or whateve ron that item, it gets automatically changed everywhere.

I'll try to write more, with an example, later. no time right now.

examples

Ok, look at the source for ItemTronTable, ItemTronChair, ItemTronArcadeCabinet, and how I'm including them in Tron Month, Tables, and Chairs

about your test

reload the target page. {: It did change when I loaded your test this morning.

As for indexing them, I'm wondering if we can put them all in a category, so we can get to the individual pages through that category. The other option is to have something (say, the picture) be a link to the single item description itself, so we can quickly get to the template.

The one thing I wish I could figure out how to do is to easily do the "What links here" link in the item's page itself. So if you get to the item, it is easy for the casual user to see what groups it is in, and other things about it.

more about your test

Interesting. It is definately there for me when I loaded it just now. I know as I was testing it was showing up when I previewed.

How odd.

still not working for you

Curiousier and curiouser.

If you edit the page - what do you see? The version with the include or the version without the include. Why would you get the version without the include? If you go to the item's page itself, what do you see?

Making the image a link is more difficult than it seems. Looks like the easiest way is to add a redirect on the _picture's_ page, so when you click on the picture, it goes to that page and then includes the item. But this looks a bit gnarly. Other methods to make the link and include the picture just look nasty. Still pondering this, but probably not much more today.

Questions: From UpInTheAir

It appears from the Recent Changes page that you have quite a bit on your plate :) and that you have been instrumental in determining the direction the guide is taking with many of your ideas. As a result, I was wondering whether there was any area in particular where you would like some assistance or any topics/areas in particular that you think needs some editing... I have lately been focusing on the Quest areas, both In-Park and In-game, and there is still a lot more that needs to be done, but I am always interested in broadening my horizons and was interested in your feedback as to what areas need the most help:)

Also, would like to discuss spoilers within the In-Park quest. I do like the mouse hover answers, but was curious how a Spoiler warning would be placed in a situation such as this...

--UpInTheAir 12:56, 12 September 2006 (CDT)

More about spoilers

My major concern was the fact that by including the answers as a mouse hover feature it would be difficult for people who were not interested in spoilers to view just the questions without inadvertently seeing the answers... So I was curious whether you thought there should just be a spoiler area with questions featuring mouse hover answers and an area with just plain questions. This seems like it would take up unnecessary space... Keeping this in mind, it seems like the major options are combined questions and spoilers with mouse hover answers with a spoiler warning telling how answers can be viewed with the mouse hover, or having only the answers presented in a separate spoiler area of the page as is done with the In-Game quests...

Was also curious if you knew of anybody who has the original Version 1 quests from WDW as I only have DLR quests...I was planning on asking on the forums thought to see if you knew anybody first...

Your input is greatly appreciated --UpInTheAir 13:52, 12 September 2006 (CDT)

Quest Questions

Thanks for the links, I had used the WDW page before to add some of the quest questions...

The only problem is that I know the DLR questions are from the current version (version 2) and that there were many changes made between the versions. Since the WDW quest is also supposed to be current, I figured that these too must be version 2. I have all the version 2 questions up and was hoping to find somebody who had some original quests so that I could get the version 1 questions :) If you know of anybody who has old WDW quests, you can let me know, else I figure I will post on the forums.

Thanks, --UpInTheAir 21:26, 12 September 2006 (CDT)

A BIG thanks

That is a million times better...now I must figure out how you did that!

Thanks a bunch,--UpInTheAir 01:59, 22 September 2006 (CDT)

Another Question

I'd like to help make the individual item pages (like the ones where I labeled the pictures) so that the inventory pages can use the templates instead...

Only thing is...I have no idea where to start...

Update Found the template help area...Will be able to start working on these soon :)

Item pages

I'll save working on more item pages for another night...head is killing me :p

So work on any one you want :)

I'm just going to format the In-Park quest pages and get them ready for the answers (I'm finding adding the spoiler section to be rather time consuming...) and then head to bed...

Night :)

I always appreciate you imput!

Haunted Mansion Quest

I have been searcing VMK forums for the Haunted Mansion Quest Questions/Answers and all I have found are the posts where you mention removing them so that people won't get confused ;). By any chance do you have the Q's and A's anywhere...or know somebody who does?

Thanks, --UpInTheAir 19:05, 11 November 2006 (CST)

Acceptable? Of course!

Adventureland quest pics

Thank you so much for fixing the pics...I was going to do that but hadn't gotten around to it, so they are perfect. But let me know what you think of sizing...I had them all proportional but the inside was too big. I could always do inside right and inside left seperate and have them all the same size...Also I want to go back and crop them a little more.

PDFs to images

I gave it a try on the Coupon Awards page. Please let me know what you think. Have been searching for all my saved quests and coupons (on the computer) but haven't figured out where and what computer I stored them on. If you have any and can somehow send them to be I'd be happy to put them up if you think the format is acceptable. There were size issues with these images as well...

History section

Will do!

More power?

Do "normal" editors like me have less power? I accidentally uploaded the same image with different names and I don't think I have the ability to delete it...

--UpInTheAir 00:58, 25 November 2006 (CST)

Deletion

Actually, this needs deleting: Image:Fin's_Galaxy_Quest_11-16-06.jpg

Until I can crop the images for the Adventureland Quest better and maybe work on size consistency, I think it's best to leave them as is...I did know about replacing files...but the morning I uploaded this file I have no idea what I was thinking.

So, if you would be kind enough to delete it for me...or should I bow to my superior first ;)

--UpInTheAir 01:19, 25 November 2006 (CST)

UpInTheAir is Blushing

Thank you for such kind words. Really enjoyed this:

(diff) (hist) . . m Fantasyland Castle 2/9‎; 12:21 . . SpinMarty (Talk | contribs) (small typo - UP, you are cool :))

Which I assumed was for me...but could always be wrong ;).

I know what you mean about logging into VMK, I was trying to add some info I wasn't sure about earlier when I had the game and the wiki up at the same time which is always helpful. (UpInTheAir wonders why she never sees you in VMK :)) Speaking of Other Pins, should the cheap (25 credit) buyable pins (ie Cinderella, and Autopia) be added to this page? I found their info in the shop item lists, but not on the pin page (unless I didn't look hard enough).

Also, for Holiday Quest 2006, thinking about putting it with last years. Let me know what you think.

Lastly, I have searched ALL my computers and not found any more saved pdfs... So I was wondering if you had any :). I know we are missing a few DLR pdfs, and the non-current WDW... If not, I can scan the ones I have printed out.

--UpInTheAir 03:08, 2 December 2006 (CST)

Quests

Regarding the new in-game quests...Have been swamped with work lately and as a result, have not been able to spend very much time in VMK. Was planning to do the new quests when things begin to die down in a couple of weeks (probably two weeks). Feel free to do whatever you have time for, and if you think the current format works well, I think we should continue to use it. Thanks for starting the pages, I appreciate it :)

Thanks

--UpInTheAir 21:44, 4 December 2006 (CST)

Fin's Frosty Fest Quest

I noticed this quest is going to be held Sunday, December 10, 2006, and I'm almost positive that I will not be able to do it. I was wondering if you had somebody who could get me the questions, or if you could start a thread on the forums for people to post the questions, I would really appreciate it! All I need are Q's (A's- but these are usually up) and the quest summary page image. If there are picture clues, I like to try to include these as well!

Thanks,

--UpInTheAir 13:59, 8 December 2006 (CST)

Lol...I caved in, I really should have been working on real work...but what can I say, it was too tempting. Thanks for the effort though!

--UpInTheAir 13:15, 10 December 2006 (CST)

Pins and Thanks for the Heads Up

Thanks for letting me know about the pin titles...gradually need to remove those (?) all over the place in the pin area ;). Curious, do you think it would be okay to put the buyable pins on the Other Pins page? Where they are now seems a little isolated...

--UpInTheAir 01:50, 27 December 2006 (CST)

Pins

Will be moving once everything has a template...One Pins link sounds like a good idea to me. Eliminate the clutter ;)

--UpInTheAir 01:55, 27 December 2006 (CST)

Question about Pins

The Buyable Pins are currently in a strange order...how do you think they should be arranged? Complete alphabetical, or by store and alphabetical...or what? Appreciate your imput!

--UpInTheAir 02:06, 27 December 2006 (CST)

How did I know you were going to say that ;) Just wanted to double check!

--UpInTheAir 02:09, 27 December 2006 (CST)

How many times are you going to make me blush?

Hmph...vacation for you maybe... I've been editing at work and after work ;). Just glad to be helping and trying to get more done now that things are a little less busy. Don't you dare stay away too long, I miss our tag team editing! I always appreciate your imput, support, and dedication. Wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year.

All the best, --UpInTheAir 01:38, 31 December 2006 (CST)

No, Thank YOU!

As usual, thank you for such kind words and for sharing with me some of your "power" ;). Things definitely haven't been the same around here without you, but I'm always glad to see your edits and your vigilent eye! I have NO idea how you used to get the Newsletter up so fast! It's a lot more work than it seems and you always made it appear so easy. Yet, I am always happy to help and I think the newsletter section is something very important to archive. Hopefully we shall continue to see your edits around here, for every little bit helps!

Thanks again and take care,

Checklist

Hey, I like the idea about the page... but see Talk:Checklist for my concerns and thoughts. (Prisoner 08:15, 21 September 2006 (CDT))

MichelleA talk

Ok, now that i know how to do this :) There are some dates in the hat section that are not inputed. Do i have to edit each section, 1 by 1, or is there a way to make it to big edit?

How would you add a link to another page onto the wiki?

yea, but how am i able to put choose your destiny? what would i put?

Should we put something under the re-released beta that determines them to be re-released?--Michellea 00:31, 10 November 2006 (CST)

The red, blue, green, and purple turnstiles have changed the way they face in inventory. Should we add the new pic and put some info on it or no? --Michellea 01:21, 11 November 2006 (CST)

I see you attacked the recent changes list xD

tag

The pricing templates are pretty easy:

{{price|num}}: Dnum
{{specialPrice|num}}: S/Dnum
{{formerPrice|num}}: X/Dnum
{{questPrice}}: Q

And truth be told - I do a lot of cutting/pasting myself when making new item pages.

researching from forums

No problems. This is why we have multiple editors... we can watch each others backs. {:

I agree - researching info through the forum archives can be tough.

(Prisoner 09:11, 22 November 2006 (CST))

Pins/Clothing and Templates

I definately think that templates are the way to go for these items. My biggest concern is that "color" doesn't make sense for the pins, but I think we can live with the column. It definately has use for clothes, at least. (Or, if we really wanted pain at this point, remove the color column for everybody and put the column in the item name.)

One thing to think about. We will have individual costume parts broken out now. Do we also want a page for each costume, which will include the parts list, as well as pictures of people in the entire outfit? Something to think about as we start to put the parts together.

(Prisoner 09:49, 22 November 2006 (CST))

Thanksgiving day

Well, not exactly the morning, but a little bit of time when I got a moment. But I'm glad you've been getting the rest of the pictures, since I have to head to the family event shortly. Hope you're having a good Thanksgiving/Thursday. {:

Spin, I was wondering when will you be back on VMKF?

Baseball Costumes

Hey, I messed something up over here - http://disneysonlineworlds.com/index.php/Costumes

I wanted to add an extra "s" to the costumes but it didn't link. >_< I fixed it for now using the external link. Sorry about that.

Alice Ride

Beat you to it ;), check the locations of them now. If you catch one that's not right, let me know. I happened to be in "it's a small world" Imports when the change happened, and edited them.

Besides that fact, you'll notice I put the location in a link, instead of just words. Should we continue to edit the templates this way? --Schmoofy 14:42, 7 May 2007 (CDT)

Bleh, the shops are a mess. Maybe re-directs on the pages to the different items? I'm sure something will get worked out. --Schmoofy 14:50, 7 May 2007 (CDT)

Deletion

Can you delete this picture, Spin? http://www.disneysonlineworlds.com/index.php/Image:Spacred.JPG --Schmoofy 14:23, 12 May 2007 (CDT)

Here's a few stray pages I found that should probably be deleted.

http://www.disneysonlineworlds.com/index.php/MissWaffle

http://www.disneysonlineworlds.com/index.php/In_the_games_section

http://www.disneysonlineworlds.com/index.php/Cog_Street_Percentage_Charts

There's probably a lot more, those are just a few I stumbled upon. --Schmoofytalk 15:16, 15 May 2007 (CDT)

Male/Female Templates

I didn't think about people printing off the list. There, replaced :)

I also removed the "magenta" tag from the rope divider because there is no real color to it, unless that was to differentiate it from the golden colour. --Schmoofytalk 18:07, 29 May 2007 (CDT)

SalePrice SellsPrice

You asked for it, you got it. Both {{salePrice|10}} and {{sellsPrice|10}} do the same thing. Template:SellsPrice --Prisoner 13:31, 8 June 2007 (CDT)

Ah Hah!

Oops, forgot about keeping the older price there, sorry for the extra work. ;)

Anyway, will you be playing POTCO when it comes out? I remember hearing that either you or Priz weren't, not sure which. --Schmoofytalk 22:44, 15 June 2007 (CDT)

Question about placement of replies to userpage queries

Hello! You have placed a query on my usertalk page, and I was unsure whether to reply here or to reply with an indented comment on the same page. Anyways, could you please tell me which would be the correct place? Thanks! Good ol Sandy 00:12, 6 January 2008 (CST)

Permision To Use External Sites (forgot)

I was working on the Current News (POTCO) page, and when making pages, Current News 15 for example, I used many links like there was in the actual site's Current News section, using the same links they did. Was I suppose to ask permission to use those. If so, sorry about that. --Haveamagicalday

Sells For

Hey spin! I think you're using the 1/5 of the original price, and that's not always right. I'm not 100% sure you are or aren't just making sure. --Haveamagicalday 11:14, 12 January 2008 (CST)

Forms in wikimarkup

The forms aren't allowed. See http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:HTML_in_wikitext. There might be an add-on which exists that can do it. --Prisoner 05:40, 14 January 2008 (CST)

Using Unknown Template For CP

I don't play Club Penguin, so I'm not sure on this. If on the pages you've just created, Shamrock Pin, and Music Note Pin, should you put the unknown template Unknown for the release and retired, instead of a question mark? Just wondering :), because the unknown template puts it in a category with a todo as well :). --Haveamagicalday (Talk | Contributions) 18:58, 21 January 2008 (CST)

Cropping

I noticed that there was not a section for 'The Journal of Captain Rockhopper' yet and would be more than happy to take pictures of the book for you. Although, while looking at the other books, I noticed they were very well cropped and didn't show any backround (if none, very little) How did you get them cropped so well? On paint, I only have the rectangular cropping tool to work with. Want me to just crop them as I can? I would also be willing to add the other books. --GoodPolarGirl 08:03, 15 July 2008 (PDT)

Item Modeled?

I noticed that you started doing Item Modeled for all of the hat items, and as you can probably see, I continued with it. I had the divers helmet, but I couldn't edit the blue that showed up in the helmet well.

Anyways, are we going to be doing this with all the clothing items? or just the head items? If they are all, I'll try to do everything I can. --Polar

Oh, OK, thanks! And also, I need some help. You can probably do this because you are a better editor than I am LOL. I was able to get the Diver's helmet to look good, but I am having trouble with The Surf Knot hairdo

File:TheSurfKnot-To be edited.jpg

Could you try to get the blue out of the sections between the hair? --GoodPolarGirl 10:19, 28 July 2008 (PDT)

Fall Fair Tickets

Seeing as how the Fall Fair has returned and, by the looks of it, for a few years on, is there anyway we could get a Price Template for the tickets?
